The Hostel
We are the first boutique hostel in Malta, and offer exceptional accommodation with great amenities at affordable prices.
Two Pillows Boutique Hostel is situated right in the heart of Sliema opposite Valletta the capital city of Malta. We are close to the sea and within walking distance to some great beaches and lidos. You can stroll down to Sliema Strand and find cafes, bars and restaurants in just a couple of minutes. Shops and supermarkets are minutes away. The bustling Sliema Ferries offers great transport options around Malta both by bus and also by ferry.
We are the first boutique hostel in Malta, and have strived to offer exceptional accommodation including great amenities like a Spa equipped with a Jacuzzi and Sauna, a fully equipped kitchen, breakfast area, outside terrace, chill-out room with TV and book exchange. Modern design was blended with the old architecture to help offer the best amenities to our guests. The accommodation is housed in a large traditional Maltese townhouse along a quaint street leading to Sliema Marsamxetto Harbour. All of the rooms have been professionally converted within this traditional Maltese townhouse setting, blending the authentic ambience with convenient modern touches. Although the Hostel first opened its doors in 2013, it was extensively refurbished again in 2017, with a further set of rooms added into the expansion.
Accommodation options range from luxurious suites, studio apartments to budget options for youths and other travelers in spacious, clean and comfortable hostel dorms. Two Pillows prides itself on the fact it is not a ‘party hostel’ creating an atmosphere perfect for socialising, sharing tips and making new friends.
Sliema (Maltese: “Tas-Sliema”) is a town located on the northeast coast of Malta in the Northern Harbour District. It is a major residential and commercial area and a centre for shopping, dining, and café life. Lining the coastline is a promenade known as the Sliema Front, that has become the ideal spot for joggers and walkers as well as a prolific meeting place for locals during the summer season. Romantic moon strolls, barbeques and open air restaurants Tattoo and Piercing and cafes have made Sliema the hub of social nightlife. Sliema is also known for its numerous rocky beaches, water sports and hotels.
Sliema, which means ‘peace, comfort’, was once a quiet fishing village on the peninsula across Marsamxett Harbour from Valletta and boasts beautiful views of the capital city.
The population began to grow in 1853 and the town was declared a parish in 1878. Now Sliema and the coastline up to neighbouring St. Julian’s constitutes Malta’s main coastal resort.
At the Great Siege of 1565, il-Qortin, as it was then known, was a camp centre for Turkish troops led by Dragut. He met his fate there, having been killed by a bombardment from Fort St. Elmo at the other flank of Marsamxett Harbour, where Sliema stands. Fort Tigné was eventually built by the Knights of St. John in the late 18th century and further developed by the British in later years. In 1855 a new church dedicated to Our Lady Star of the Sea (“Stella Maris”) was opened to public worship. Around the new church, the small village grew into a town.
Residents of Sliema are stereo typically known for their usage of English as a first language, although this is changing in the 21st century due to demographic shifts. Maltese people from Sliema are referred to as Slimiżi.
So, whether you are looking to sample the beach, sun, Malta’s unique history or just need a break, you’ll find Two Pillows Boutique Hostel to be your best base for exploring the Islands of Malta. Pleasingly, Sliema and its many beaches are within walking distance, while Valletta – our capital city – is a short ferry or bus ride away and most other places of interest are directly connected to our town by bus.
And our facilities don’t stop there. We have chosen to create dorms with the ‘best hostel beds ever’. All of the dormitories are spacious and bright, with a maximum of just six people per a room. Beyond that, most of the dormitories have en suite showers and toilets, while linen, storage space, WIFI access, and air conditioning are all included in the price.
And if you want your holiday to be a little more luxurious, you could choose from the stunning studio apartments and suites that are also on offer, all of which provide more space and privacy. These rooms take the best from the building’s original architecture and combine it perfectly with gentle modern design to offer each traveller that boutique effect. The studio is fully-equipped with a kitchen and dining table. The suites and studio also have en suite showers, large double beds, linen, towels, soap, wireless internet, air-conditioning, heating, cable TV, and WiFi, and gorgeous views – making them the perfect blend of hostel/hotel living. So, the privacy of your room will only be a few steps away from the great social atmosphere downstairs. Discounts also apply for long stays and group bookings.
